Nick Saban’s honest statement about John Mitchell after his leukemia diagnosis

The Alabama soccer coach has released a statement supporting former Crimson Tide wide receiver Joh Metchie III, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

The Houston Texans and Alabama football communities were shaken by the sad news of wide receiver John Mitchie III on Sunday when he revealed his cancer diagnosis.

Michy, who won a national championship with Crimson Tide and was recently drafted by the Texans in the second round, was diagnosed with leukemia. He is expected to miss the 2022 NFL season.

Nick Saban trained Metchie for three years in Alabama and supported the receiver to make him go through this unfortunate development.

“John has overcome every challenge placed before him in his life with rigor and determination, and we are behind him every step of the way in his battle against leukemia,” Saban said in a statement posted to Twitter. “It is a blessing that he is in a city known for great medical care and with organization, in Houston Texas, who will be with him throughout this journey. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with him throughout this fight.”

News of Michi’s diagnosis came earlier on Sunday with a tweet from Texas.

“I was recently diagnosed with APL (acute bronchial leukemia), the most curable form of the leukemia. “I am currently receiving significant medical care and am in good spirits and expect to recover at a later time,” Michi said in a statement. I probably won’t play football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and good wishes. I can’t wait to come back stronger than ever. God bless.”

Metchie has been Alabama’s second-largest receiver in each of the past two seasons. In 2020, he had 55 catches for 916 yards and six touchdowns. As a junior in 2021, he had 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. He tore the ACL in the SEC Championship game and was unable to compete in the college football game.

Recovering from a knee injury was supposed to be his biggest challenge in 2022. Now he will be working with Houston’s distinguished medical professionals to fight leukemia successfully.
